With Tom Brady’s imminent signing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we expect that Tampa will be a popular NFL destination in the 2020 season. Since it was reported, the queue to sign up for Bucs season tickets has reached huge proportions and at one point was over six thousand! However, Brady is not the only thing worth visiting Tampa for – this year’s Super Bowl host city has much to offer.
It is of course home to the stalwart attractions such as Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, Lowry Park Zoo, the Florida Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry (which are all great!). However, a trip to Tampa wouldn’t be complete without a visit to South Howard (SOHO to the locals) where you will find a wide range of bars, shops and restaurants including Bern’s Steakhouse, a Florida institution since 1956. The morning after a great steak dinner, it’s then worth heading to Oxford Exchange, a converted 1890s stable close to downtown for breakfast before crossing the street to the Henry B Plant museum, an unmissable building dedicated to the railroad tycoon and one of the wealthiest men in the world at the turn of the century.
The Buccaneers also have an intriguing home schedule in 2020 and now with Brady on side, Raymond James Stadium should witness some great QB battles, we’re talking Brady v Rodgers, Brady v Mahomes, Brady v Brees (ALL this year!). Tampa also plays host to a range of other sporting options if just an NFL game isn’t enough. There’s college football with the nearby University of South Florida Bulls, the Rays provide a nice early season baseball option, while the Lightning are there for anyone who’d like to catch some ice hockey.
Want to extend your game weekend beyond Tampa? Not a problem as you have some great options close by! Clearwater Beach is only a 30 minute drive from the downtown area and offers visitors one of the best beaches in the US, a perfect NFL/ beach break option. Or, if relaxing by the coast isn’t your thing then the theme park capital of the world, Orlando is only an hour and a half drive away.
No host city has ever had its home team play in the Super Bowl and Tom Brady is looking to rewrite history yet again in Tampa Bay and you could be there to witness the journey!
