Things to Do – Yes, there is more than football!
Baltimore is an old school American city with a rich history and lots to see and do. Sitting alongside the Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore was an important trading city in America’s early years and features a beautiful Inner Harbor area, resplendent with shops, bars and restaurants.
The Harbor itself is home to the National Aquarium, featuring an impressive collection of sea life including dolphins, sharks and a lovely giant turtle! Also in the Harbor is the Maryland Science Center, brimming with fascinating technological exhibits.
Baltimore saw the birth of the Star Spangled Banner – America’s national anthem. There is a museum commemorating this and a trip to Fort McHenry will take you to the scene where Francis Scott Key penned his famous ode following a famous victory against the British in the War of 1812.
Baltimore has great neighbourhoods for exploring and we’re happy to discuss with you the best places in line with your requirements.
Federal Hill boasts a great urban mix of trendy eateries and bars. If local culture is more your speed, Mount Vernon is worth a visit. It is home to the Washington Monument and Walter’s Art Museum and also close to many great eating and drinking options.
Or perhaps the historic neighbourhood of Fell’s Point is more for you – with cobblestone streets, eclectic shops and more bars than you can shake a stick at, it doesn’t get any more quintessentially Baltimore than this great area of town.
At Touchdown trips, we’re happy to help with recommendations and in some case advanced tickets to these and other city attractions – please mention it when you call!
Baltimore sits in a great spot to explore the East Coast. Washington is just 45 minutes’ south, with Philadelphia an hour north by Amtrak and New York 2 ½ hours away.
Baltimore sits within the state of Maryland, and there are plenty of things to do throughout the state. A trip to Annapolis – Maryland’s capital – is a must. Home to the US Naval Academy, this historic, picturesque town features a fantastic bay-side location with fantastic shops, quaint old row houses and amazing restaurants. Seafood is the specialty – and you can’t beat a bushel of steamed crabs by the Chesapeake!
Travel a little further out and you can find the Eastern Shore – looking out to the Atlantic, Ocean City is a popular spot with vacationing locals and it’s easy to see why. Long stretching sandy beaches and an old-fashioned seaside boardwalk are just two attractions as well as a burgeoning nightlife.
